The "Feel the Rush" Quebec Tour stops in Sainte-Thérèse this Sunday

SAINTE-THERESE, QC, June 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Feel The Rush Quebec Tour
which is aimed at getting more Canadians with a physical disability involved
in sport, will be stopping in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, this Sunday, June 8, in
conjunction with a major annual event organized by the Association québécoise
des sports en fauteuil roulant, called l'Evénement AQSFR 2008.
The goal of Feel the Rush, a grassroots public awareness campaign from
the Canadian Paralympic Committee that is being delivered in Quebec with the
help of Défi sportif, is to increase the number of Canadians with a disability
who "feel the rush" of confidence and empowerment that comes with enjoying
sport on a daily basis
Attendees will have the chance to meet Quebec Paralympic athletes, such
as Patrice Simard, Daniel Paradis and Fabien Lavoie (wheelchair rugby); Diane
Roy and Michel Filteau (athletics); and Mark Beggs and Rico Morneau
(paracycling).
The goal of the Feel the Rush Quebec Tour is to promote the participation
of Quebec athletes at the next Paralympic Games, running September 6-17 in
Beijing, China. As part of the tour, Quebec's Paralympic athletes will discuss
their sporting experiences at various "barbecues" held across the province,
several weeks before their departure for China.
Other objectives include demonstrating that sport can be used in the
rehabilitation of people who have been injured, and educating people in each
of the regions about the resources available on adaptive sports. For details
about the Feel the Rush program, go to www.feeltherush.ca. The tour will stop
at various physical rehabilitation centers in Quebec.
The June 8 event will be held at Collège Lionel-Groulx, in
Sainte-Thérèse, starting at 9 a.m.. Media representatives are welcome to
attend the event, which will be held primarily in French. The event is
expected to end around 4 p.m.
