VANCOUVER, June 3 /CNW/ - The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is substantially
reducing emissions, energy consumption, and saving money with the help of
Sempa Power's Hybrid Heating System, as indicated by new results released
As part of its Green Partnership Program, the hotel installed Sempa's
Hybrid Heating System in January of 2009. Since then The Fairmont Chateau
Whistler has saved 284 tonnes of GHG - a 19% reduction in emissions, reduced
energy consumption by 1680 GJ or 5%, and reduced energy costs by 13% which
added up to more than $100,000 in savings.
BC-based Sempa Power System's technology allows commercial buildings to
decrease GHG emissions and reduce energy costs by allowing their heating
systems to automatically switch between fossil fuels and, in BC,
hydroelectricity, based on the cheapest fuel source in a 24-hour cycle.
"Fairmont's Green Partnership focuses on improvements in the areas of
energy and water conservation, waste management, and community outreach
programs," said Rui Pereira, Fairmont Chateau Whistler Chief Engineer.
"Sempa's Hybrid Heating System allows us to advance in these areas and
solidify Fairmont's position as an industry leader in environmental
"We are happy to play a major part in helping The Fairmont Chateau
Whistler meet its objectives in reducing its environmental impact while saving
money," said Ron Dizy, President & CEO, Sempa Power Systems Ltd. "By
installing Sempa's hybrid heating system at its Whistler hotel, Fairmont is
demonstrating its commitment to improving the health of our planet."

About Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
In 1884, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts was founded on an enduring connection
to the land and communities where we do business. Remaining true to this
principal, the company took a proactive approach in 1990 with the launch of
its industry-leading Green Partnership program, a comprehensive approach to
reducing its impact on the environment. Unheard of at the time, the pioneering
program consisted of an early guidebook on sustainable best practices in the
lodging industry, and established a commitment to minimizing its hotels'
impact on the planet as a key component of its operating philosophy.
The Green Partnership allows Fairmont to meet and exceed guest
expectations of operational sustainability and responsible tourism, because
the environment isn't just something that's 'out there' - it's where we live,
work and play each day. For more information or reservations, please call
