The day the world runs: 2009 Nike+ human race 10k

Hundreds of thousands of runners from around the world will run 10K
    together on October 24th

TORONTO, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - Simon Bairu, 5000 metre Canadian Champion and
last year's winner of the Human Race along with Rebecca Johnstone 2x800 metre
Canadian Champion were in Toronto today to encourage runners of all levels to
register in what promises to be the world's biggest one day running event
ever. The 2009 Nike+ Human Race 10K offers runners across the globe the chance
to compete together on October 24, 2009.
"The Nike+ Human Race is designed to inspire and connect runners
worldwide and to create a global running experience for Canadians," said Ian
Bertrand, Running Brand Manager, Nike Canada.
"Having been a runner my entire life, I'm proud to participate again this
year in the Nike+ Human Race and urge runners of all levels to join the global
running community through this event," said Simon Bairu, 5000 metre Canadian
Champion.
Nike is partnering with the Running Room which will provide training runs
and organized local race events for Canadians leading up to and on race day.
"We're excited to be partnering with Nike for the 2009 Nike+ Human Race,"
said John Stanton, founder of the Running Room. "We'll be keeping the momentum
going from last year's race with local run clinics at Running Room stores
across Canada leading up to the race on October 24th."
Runners can register for the Nike+ Human Race 10K through Nikeplus.com
where they can select their race day location - either one of the organized
race events or wherever they are on race day with the use of their Nike+
system to log a 10K run on October 24th. Registration for the Nike+ Human Race
10K is $20 for the organized race events across Canada in partnership with the
Running Room. Nike will donate a portion of each Canadian registration to the
Livestrong Foundation. Runners who select the "Run Where You Are" option can
run for free and be counted through Nike+.
Members of Nikeplus.com can also take advantage of Nike's online training
tools and experience the full depth of the Nike+ community which has already
reached close to 2 million members worldwide.
Last year Nike hosted the world's largest running event with nearly
780,000 participants. This year, the multi-city event will take place on
October 24th, 2009 and will once again celebrate the sport of running by
giving runners everywhere the opportunity to run together with others around
the world. Nike is hosting runs all around the world but through Nikeplus.com,
every city and every road can become a race day course. Some of the cities
hosting races this year are: New York City, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro,
Berlin and Sydney - just to mention a few. By combining the virtual running
world with the physical, the Nike+ Human Race 10K is open to anyone, anywhere.
