The CSC Group develops the Eco-System, an innovative refrigeration system that permits a major reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

    The CSC Group is a Canadian leader in the development and
    commercialization of refrigeration systems for food retailers and the
    industrial sector

    LES COTEAUX, QC, June 11 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Serge Dubé, President of the
CSC Group, is pleased to announce that the company has just launched the
Eco2-System, a brand new patented, ultra-efficient refrigeration system that
permits a major reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the
environment. A few of these systems are already being installed in some
grocery store supermarkets in Quebec.
    The CSC Group is a company specialized in the development of
refrigeration systems for food retailers and the industrial sector. Over the
years, the Company has developed a range of systems to meet the varied needs
of its clients. These systems are based on a patented technological platform
called SMARTREF(TM). The Company is positioned as a leader in the Quebec and
Canada-wide food sector thanks to its high capacity for innovation, as well as
the quality, performance and reliability of its products.

    GHG and refrigeration systems

    "Traditional refrigeration systems used in grocery store supermarkets are
responsible for significant greenhouse gas emissions. GHG emissions from our
new Eco2-System are 3,900 times lower than other technologies currently on the
market using synthetic refrigerants, which have a very high potential of
contributing to global warming," added Mr. Dubé.
    Meanwhile, the CSC Group's new product, the Eco2-System, uses CO2, a gas
generally linked to global warming. However, through our innovative
technology, it is transformed into a true friend of the environment by
allowing for a marked reduction in GHGs. "Compared to traditional synthetic
refrigerants, CO2 has the potential to have much less impact on global
warming. In addition, a refrigeration system using carbon dioxide contains a
lower quantity of refrigerant due to its volumetric capacity, which is 6 to 8
times higher than synthetic refrigerants," explains Mr. Dubé.

    Heat recovery

    Furthermore, the Eco2-System includes a heat recovery process that allows
food retailers to eliminate the need for a traditional heating system. In
Quebec, consumed electricity comes mainly from hydroelectricity, which is not
a source of GHG. The situation is different elsewhere in Canada where
electricity is often produced by coal-powered electricity plants, which
generate a very large amount of GHG.
    "Based on the fact that there are about 6,500 grocery retailers in
Canada, we can estimate that if they all used the Eco-System from the CSC
Group, we could experience a decrease in GHG equivalent to taking two million
cars off the road," said Mr. Dubé.

    A technology that offers several advantages

    In addition to its major environmental advantage, the Eco2-System also
enables users to benefit from substantial operating and maintenance cost
reductions over competitive systems. Compared to other systems, the
Eco-System:

    - permits a significant decrease in energy consumption (elimination of
      heating bills) ;
    - uses 5 times less refrigerant;
    - uses refrigerants that are 10 times less costly;
    - generates maintenance fees, which are 30% less costly;
    - while ensuring food preservation and optimal freshness.
