The CHUM pushes new boundaries in diagnostic medical imaging with Cutting-edge technologies in radiology

MONTREAL, May 26 /CNW Telbec/ - Reduced examination times for patients,
better image quality and less radiation, even more systematic use in emerging
fields such as cardiac imaging: just some of the advantages of new
industry-leading medical imaging technologies installed at the CHUM over the
last year.
"The recent acquisition of a 3-Tesla(*) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
system and a computerized tomography (CT) scanner with large anatomical
coverage that uses a 256 slice per rotation system for one of the most highly
developed imaging facilities in Canada is a technological innovation that will
serve patient and health professionals with respect to diagnoses," explained
Dr. Pierre Bourgouin, Chief of the CHUM's Radiology Department. He added that
"these avant-garde technologies reaffirm the CHUM's position as a trailblazer
in the improvement of imaging technologies in Canada."
Among the imaging instruments setting new milestones are the Philips
Achieva 3.0T MRI system and the Philips Brilliance iCT scanner. These two
scanners are in operation at the CHUM's Hôpital Notre-Dame and Hôtel Dieu,
respectively.
"The CHUM's acquisition of the Philips industry leading imaging
technology offers patients in the region greater access to vital healthcare
services including clinical and diagnostic applications," said John
Cieslowski, Vice President Healthcare, Philips Canada.

A video of the 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging system in operation at
Hôpital Notre-Dame will be available on the CHUM ftp site later today.
