TORONTO, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - The CanWest Steen Classic Golf Tournament will
take place at the esteemed Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville on Thursday,
September 6, 2007.
CanWest Global has partnered with The Amadeus Steen Foundation to raise
awareness and funds for various children's charities. The Steen Foundation is
a Winnipeg based charity founded by Alex Steen's (Toronto Maple Leafs) family
to enhance the lives of children and youth in all communities across Canada
through non-clinical initiatives that seek to restore hope. Monies raised from
the first annual CanWest Steen Classic in Toronto will support the Street
Level Youth Program at the LAMP Community Health Centre in Etobicoke.
Leafs' centre Alex Steen and his father Thomas Steen, former captain of
the Winnipeg Jets, will be joined on the links by several other Leafs
including Matt Stajan, Kyle Wellwood, Andrew Raycroft, Jason Blake, Ian White
and Andy Wozniewski. The Maple Leaf coaching staff, Paul Maurice and Keith
Acton are also taking some time out to support the cause. Other notable NHLers
attending are Wojtek Wolski (Colorado Avalanche) and Eric Lindros (Dallas
Stars). Also expected to play are Toronto Maple Leafs' play-by-play
broadcaster Joe Bowen and colour commentator Harry Neale.
CanWest Global is thrilled to have several TV stars attending their
inaugural event. Canadian comic and star of the new comedy show Unhitched,
Shaun Majumder will co-host the event with Global Weather Anchor Susan Hay.
Canadian Supermodel and actress Monika Schnarre, Paulo Costanzo (Joey), Ashley
Leggat (Life With Derek) and sports broadcasters Sean McCormick and Rob Faulds
(Rogers Sportsnet) will also attend.
Entertainment Tonight Canada will be there to cover the event and bring
all the highlights to viewers later that evening.
