The Cancer Research Society and the PROCURE Tour du Courage are joining forces to fight prostate cancer

MONTREAL, Nov. 17, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Laurent Proulx, businessman, prostate cancer survivor, Ironman and founder of the PROCURE Tour du Courage, revealed yesterday morning, during the launch of the third edition of this three-stage cycling competition, that an amount of $120,000 would be jointly invested by the Cancer Research Society and by the Tour du Courage PROCURE in prostate cancer research.

"I hope that it helps to eventually eradicate this form of cancer and that my sons will never have to live through that ordeal," said Laurent Proulx, whose fundraising event has met with extraordinary success ever since its creation. "I started the PROCURE Tour du Courage in order to make a difference in the fight against this illness that affects 1 out of every 7 men. It is very gratifying to see that the donations collected by the participants can contribute so quickly to searching for a solution," according to Proulx, who now sits on the board of directors of PROCURE.

"The Cancer Research Society is pleased to contribute to the financing of prostate cancer research which is the type of cancer the most diagnosed among men in Canada in 2011," declared Mario Chevrette PhD, President of the CRS Board of Directors and also researcher on prostate cancer.

About PROCURE
PROCURE is the only charity in Quebec devoted entirely to prostate cancer. Its mission is to provide science and humanity with means to help prevent and cure prostate cancer. This is made possible through four components: awareness-raising, support, information and research in Quebec's four university hospital centers (CHUQ, CHUS, CHUM, CUSM). Moreover, PROCURE organizes activities throughout the year all over Quebec aimed at promoting early detection of this cancer which too often remains taboo.
