MONTREAL, May 27 /CNW Telbec/ - This morning, as of 9 o'clock, thousands
of enthusiastic Montrealers, excursionnists, and tourists took the museums by
storm for the 21st edition of Montreal Museums Day.
"Gateways to the World", this year's theme, was a success as 27 museums
opened their doors on the world of art, history and science, with exhibitions
and activities intended for everyone.
Considering the uncertain weather conditions and last-minute bus shuttle
service, the Board of Montreal Museum Directors is thrilled with the 108,000
visits encountered today. In fact, the 27 participating museums maintained
last year's attendance once again.
From one year to the next, Montrealers have confirmed their fascination
with museums. Rain or shine, by bike, by car, by metro, by bus, and even by
boat, Montrealers have adopted the last Sunday in May as their museum day.
Montreal Museums Day is presented by Quebecor Inc. in collaboration with
Tourism Montreal, Destination Centre-ville, in partnership with Société de
Transport de Montréal, official transporter for the event since 1987, along
with numerous public and private partners.
