WLAN DSL Gateway with Intellisteer(TM) smart antenna technology to ensure
better whole house wireless connectivity for their subscribers while
providing the performance to deliver the next generation of communication
    services

DALLAS, Sept. 10 /CNW/ -- TELUS Corporation and Siemens Home and Office
Communication Devices LLC (SHC) jointly announced today that TELUS, a leading
national telecommunications company in Canada, will offer to its TELUS High
Speed Internet customers the only service delivered through a smart antenna
gateway, the Gigaset SE567, utilizing patented beam forming technology greatly
improving Wi-Fi connectivity throughout their home.
TELUS' focus on superior customer experience has driven them to deploy
technology solutions that help ensure the maximum quality and accessibility
for communication and entertainment services. With Siemens' advanced gateway
solutions, employing the latest in, connectivity, Quality of Service, and
patented Intellisteer wireless antenna technologies, a home gateway is in
place to offer enhanced performance for today's services as well as capability
for future services combining information, communication, and entertainment.
"Among current home network users, issues related to speed and
performance of their home connectivity solution emerge as the most-common
complaints," said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks
Associates. "As service providers are often on the front lines of customer
support for home network users, it's critical that the wireless CPE be as
robust and capable as possible. Siemens' Gigaset provides important
improvements, and provides both service providers and customers with an
improved home networking experience."
"Wireless gateways play an important role in the distribution of TELUS
Broadband and IP services," said Stephen Ospalak, TELUS vice president of
Subscriber Equipment. "They provide our clients with a superior Internet
experience by decreasing the complexity of home networking as well as
providing the freedom and mobility of a wireless connection in the home."
"This validates the importance of providing intelligent gateway devices
designed to support the delivery and smart connectivity essential for the
business success of today's advanced service providers, such as TELUS" adds
Gerd Pasedag, CEO of Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices. "The
Gigaset SE567 provides TELUS with a sizable advantage over the competition in
enabling consistently high quality distribution for next generation
communication services."
The Gigaset SE567 Gateway combines an ADSL 2+ Modem, four 10/100 Ethernet
ports, one which may be configured as a WAN interface, as well as 802.11b/g
WiFi capabilities with an Intellisteer smart antenna in a single product. The
Gateway also includes powerful security features such as a configurable
ICSA-compliant stateful inspection firewall with Denial of Service (DoS)
protection. A robust QoS subsystem incorporating separate QoS Classifier,
Queue Manager and Scheduler helps provide a high quality subscriber experience
under the most demanding traffic situations.
