TELUS signs eight-year deal with Western Canada Lottery Corporation to provide an Alberta-wide IP network supporting 2,350 lottery ticket terminals

CALGARY, Sept. 6 /CNW/ - TELUS today announced that it has signed an
eight-year contract with the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) to
provide and implement an Alberta-wide secure Internet Protocol (IP) based
network. It will support approximately 2,350 on-line lottery ticket terminals,
connecting the machines in Alberta with the company's central computer system
in Winnipeg.
"TELUS is proud to partner with Western Canada Lottery Corporation to
support their on-line lottery ticket terminal network throughout Alberta,"
said Joe Natale, president, TELUS Business Solutions. "TELUS was the first to
bring a national IP network to Canada, setting a North American industry
standard. The WCLC has recognized the value that our investment in IP
technology, and the TELUS team's expertise, can bring to support their
business plans, driving real value through innovation."
The TELUS IP network will also provide the communications infrastructure
needed to support any network growth plans over the coming years.
"The TELUS IP network will provide us with the strength we need to grow
and ensure the provision of ongoing, reliable service to Albertans," said Bob
Guse, vice-president, Information Systems, WCLC. "We will also be better able
to support our retailers by providing them a best-in-class level of technical
and business support."
