Team Canada Member awarded Best in the World



    OTTAWA, Nov. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Team Canada 2007 members are now back from
Shizuoka, Japan, where they recently competed in the 2007 WorldSkills
Competition. The cooking Team Canada member, Nicolas Drouin, won the Albert
Vidal award at the closing ceremony. The award is given to the competitor that
had the highest score from the 42 contest areas. Five other young Canadians
also took to the podium to receive medals for their strong performance at the
2007 WorldSkills Competitions in Shizuoka, Japan. 8 others were also
recognized with a Medallion for Excellence which is awarded to individuals who
scored 500 or higher on the 600 point system that is used for evaluation.

    "Our performance in Japan not only demonstrates the great work ethic of
Canadians but also the strong systems of education that exist across the
country stated. Shaun Thorson", Executive Director of Skills/Compétences
Canada, the non-profit organization that manages Team Canada and the annual
Canadian Skills Competition. "These young people are the best in Canada and
all of them demonstrated that they are also at the top of the class on the
international stage."
    This year was Canada's ninth participation in the prestigious
international event. The event takes place every two years and showcases the
world's top trade and technology talent. Team Canada 2007 members competed in
26 competition areas.

    Skills/Compétences Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization that
actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies to Canadian
youth. Along with our private sector partners, we are helping to secure
Canada's future skilled labour needs.
