TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers and public
occasional teachers, members of the Keewatin-Patricia Elementary Teacher Local
and Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario
(ETFO), reached tentative collective agreements with the Keewatin-Patricia
District School Board yesterday evening.
"This is quite an accomplishment for both our teacher and occasional
teacher locals to negotiate tentative agreements within hours of one another,"
said ETFO President David Clegg. "It's a testimony to the dedication and
perseverance of our negotiating teams."
"My negotiating team worked very hard to get this deal. They delivered on
issues that are important to my members. Better working conditions and
improved benefits, they're all here in this agreement," said Anne Saltel,
President of the ETFO Keewatin-Patricia Teacher Local.
"Our agreement is a recognition of the valuable contribution hard working
occasional teachers bring to elementary education every day they are called to
work," said Robert Calder, President of the ETFO Keewatin-Patricia Occasional
Teacher Local. "My negotiation team did a good job."
Details of the agreements will be available following ratification votes
later this month.
The teacher local represents approximately 240 teachers and the
occasional teacher local represents approximately 212 occasional teachers.
Their contracts expired August 31, 2008.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
