New OFF!® survey reveals Canadians lose almost two days over the summer to pesky mosquitoes

TORONTO, May 9 /CNW/ - We've all experienced it - the annoying buzz and subsequent slap! that can accompany an otherwise peaceful summer evening. Unfortunately, while the arrival of warm weather becomes a precious opportunity to enjoy our time outside, it's also a chance for mosquitoes and other swarming insects to enjoy us too.

As a result, bothersome bugs often prevent us from experiencing the best that summer has to offer, whether we're spending time at the park, enjoying time up north or just hanging out in our own backyard. And after months of communal cabin fever across Canada, the last thing most Canucks crave is more time inside.

But stay inside we do. In fact, a recent survey1 conducted by Vision Critical for OFF!® found that more than half of Canadians (53 per cent) have stayed indoors to avoid being bitten by bugs during the summer season, with 16 per cent saying they spend three hours a day or more indoors to avoid annoying insects.

And despite the fact that many would go to drastic lengths to extend their summer hours by an extra month - including giving up access to their smartphones (41 per cent), foregoing an hour of sleep (40 per cent) and even eliminating their morning coffee (32 per cent) - a whopping 82 per cent say they rarely or never carry insect repellent - the easiest way to get more hours out of summer.
