VICTORIA, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - Tactex Controls Inc. completed the first phase
in a three stage project to install a modular respiration-monitoring sensor
system in one of Canada's largest academic palliative care units this week.
Twelve beds in the institution's newly renovated ward have been equipped
with Tactex's BEDsensor Data(TM) under-mattress tactile sensor. Tactex has
also provided a software system that will be used to simultaneously monitor
the respiration patterns of each of the bed-occupants via a single
communications hub. The client has ordered an additional 24 sensors for
installation in 2008 as part of phases two and three of the project.
"Our technology has shown remarkable sensitivity in other medical trials,
and this project should gather much more data on the unit's performance as a
respiration monitor than we have previously seen," says Tactex President and
CEO David Lokhorst. "By having another leading research facility integrate an
existing technology, we are building our reputation as a leading provider of
sensors for healthcare."
In addition to its line of modular bed sensors for the medical market,
Tactex sells tactile sensors for specialized computer input devices and
musical entertainment products. "Sales of commercial and consumer sensor
products have continued to increase as our OEM customers introduce new
products that utilize our technology," says Lokhorst.
Tactex provides tactile sensor solutions for consumer, medical, and
industrial applications. The company also provides product development
services to help clients realize their concepts. Tactex is publicly traded on
the TSX Venture Exchange (TSX-V:TTX).
