Tabachnick completes second term - Debbie Horrocks elected President of English school boards association



    MONTREAL, Jan. 26 /CNW Telbec/ - Debbie Horrocks from the Riverside
School Board is the new President of the Quebec English School Boards
Association (QESBA). Mrs. Horrocks was elected at a weekend Annual General
Meeting of the association, held in Dorval. Horrocks will serve a two-year
term. Some 100 commissioners, including the Chairs from all of the nine member
boards of the association, attended the event. Horrocks is the Vice-Chair of
Riverside School Board and served as QESBA Vice-President in the last
administration. She is also a Director of the Canadian School Boards
Association. She has been actively involved in public education since 1990.
    Carolyn Curiale from the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board was elected
Vice-President of the Association for a one-year term. Curiale is the
Vice-Chair of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and was a member of the
QESBA Executive Committee in the last administration.
    The following members were elected from the Board of Directors to serve
with the President and Vice-President on the Executive Committee of QESBA:
Sylvia Di Donato (Lester B. Pearson School Board) , Michelle Morin-Doyle
(Central Québec School Board) and John Ryan (New Frontiers School Board).
    The President succeeds Marcus Tabachnick, who served for full two
mandates, the maximum permitted under the QESBA Constitution. The Board of
Directors, which includes commissioner representatives delegated by their
member boards, was confirmed at the Annual General Meeting as well. Its
members and their Board affiliation are noted below:

(Lester B. Pearson School Board), Steve Bletas (Sir Wilfrid Laurier School
Board), Irvin Carmichael (Eastern Shores School Board), Carolyn Curiale (Sir
Wilfrid Laurier School Board), Mary Davidson (Western Québec School Board),
Pierre D'Avignon (Riverside School Board), David C. D'Aoust (New Frontiers
School Board), Sylvia Di Donato (Lester B. Pearson School Board), Ted Donnini
(English Montreal School Board), Debbie Horrocks (Riverside School Board),
Danielle Lanyi (Western Québec School Board), Frank MacGregor (Eastern
Townships School Board), Michelle Morin-Doyle (Central Québec School Board),
Rosemary Murphy (Lester B. Pearson School Board), John Ryan (New Frontiers
School Board), Ginette Sauvé-Frankel (English Montreal School Board), Douglas
Sullivan (Eastern Townships School Board), Frank Verrillo (English Montreal
School Board) and Edward Vining (Central Québec School Board).
    At the weekend meetings, QESBA delegates also heard from the Minister of
Education, Recreation and Sports, who delivered an address to delegates. QESBA
also hosted a number of professional development workshops at the weekend
session, as well as a tribute to the out-going president over lunch.
    QESBA is the voice of English public education in Quebec. Its nine member
boards serve some 110,000 students in 340 elementary and high schools, adult
and vocational centres across the province.
