CALGARY, Aug. 25 /CNW/ - In response to numerous questions, Superior
Propane made it clear today that it does not transfer propane between its
trucks as a part of normal business practice.
Recent information from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority
(TSSA) have indicated that propane was being transferred from one delivery
truck to another prior to the blast at the Sunrise Propane plant in Toronto on
August 10, 2008. These same reports have also indicated that truck-to-truck
propane transfers were frequently performed at the Sunrise Propane plant.
As a result of these reports, Superior Propane has received requests
regarding its own policies and practices. "As part of our business processes,
Superior Propane does not perform truck-to-truck transfers of propane. We have
always invested in the equipment and infrastructure necessary to store and
distribute propane in a safe and reliable manner. This includes storage tanks,
pumping equipment, emergency shutdown systems and other plant safety controls.
We fill our trucks directly from the tanks at our plants utilizing these
safety systems we have built into our process" says John Gleason, President of
Superior Propane. "I want to make it clear that Superior Propane is not
drawing any conclusions as to what may have caused the incident to occur -
that can only be determined by the investigators. We are simply responding to
questions about our own safety processes and procedures," explains Gleason.
Safety has always been a core value at Superior Propane and as a result
the company continuously monitors its practices to ensure that all operations
are performed in a safe manner.
