SUBARU CANADA GEARS UP FOR SECOND LAP AT CANADA WINTER GAMES, RETURNING AS OFFICIAL AUTOMOTIVE SPONSOR

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 9 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada is proud to announce that it has renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Canada Winter Games and is returning as the official automotive sponsor for this year's competition, taking place in Halifax, NS from February 11 to February 27.

Held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games are a key event in the development of Canada's young athletes, producing the next generation of national, international and Olympic champions. Subaru last sponsored the Canada Winter Games in 2007 in Whitehorse, YK.

"Subaru is passionate about Canada's athlete community and is proud to once again be supporting them in their quest for gold at the Canada Winter Games," said Ted Lalka, vice-president, product planning and marketing, Subaru Canada. "Subaru is looking forward to seeing what Canada's top athletic talent brings to the competitive table not only this year, but in the many years to come."

As a major sponsor, Subaru has provided Canada Winter Games staff with a fleet of 12 vehicles including 2011 models of the popular Outback and Forester, for use in advance of, and during, the Games. Furthermore, the Canada Games Oval, located at the Halifax Commons and host to long-track speed skating events, will be home to two Subaru tents where spectators can refuel with a cup of hot apple cider, access free Internet and participate in a number of interactive activities, including:

Subaru Racing Lounge:

  • Spectators can strap themselves into a racing chair and drive a virtual Subaru WRX STI around a snow-filled rally course
  • Subaru will be giving away free copies of the popular racing game Gran Turismo 5, which features the WRX, to those who post the best lap time each day during the Games

Get Out More Green Screen Zone:

  • Visitors can place themselves into the action by having their photo taken in front of one of four green screen backdrops featuring authentic Games venues such as the Canada Games Oval and Ski Wentworth
  • Those opting for a photo can dress themselves in various props to compliment their chosen backdrop, including goalie pads, ski goggles, boxing gloves and more

Subaru Pit-Stop Lounge:

  • An apple cider station will be operational during peak periods throughout the Games
  • A lounge area featuring live coverage of the Games and Internet access will be available for those looking to relax before heading to their next event

Subaru Sumo Experience:

  • Sumo suits as well as a sumo ring will be available for the public outside of the tents. Families and friends can don the suits and go head-to-head for a chance to win prizes

Both tents will be open to the public for the duration of the Games, excluding athlete training days at the Canada Games Oval, beginning on Saturday, February 12 and ending on Sunday, February 27.

In addition to the interactive tents and in celebration of the Games, Subaru is hosting a contest on Get Out More, an online adventure community, whereby users can upload their favourite outdoor activity for a chance to win a three-day trip for two to Whistler, BC.  The contest ends May 1, 2011.

Those interested in participating can visit the Get Out More website at subaru.ca/getoutmore.
