Students to Rally Against Strike - Both sides must act to help students

OTTAWA, Sept. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - On Tuesday Sept. 18 students will come
together at Carleton University in opposition to a strike which has severely
disrupted life on campus.
The rally will take place at Mackenzie Field (between the Unicentre and
Architecture Building) at 1 p.m.
After the rally students will march across campus in a show of unity
during what has been a difficult time for the university. Hundreds of students
are expected to attend.
Officials with both Carleton University and CUPE 2424 will be given the
chance to talk directly to students during the rally about what they are doing
to end the strike, which started Sept. 5. Rally organizers do not endorse
either side, but aim to put pressure on both parties to get a deal done.
The rally represents a grassroots movement of students who do not feel
their voices are being heard on campus. The Carleton University Students'
Association has supported the strike by CUPE 2424 without properly consulting
with the greater student population. This rally will allow students to speak
for themselves.
