Strike avoided at Concordia University - Technicians reach an agreement in principle

MONTREAL, Sept. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - Concordia University and the union
representing 100 technical support employees reached a tentative labour
agreement late Sunday evening.
The two parties will finalize the text of the agreement over the next few
days before submitting the agreement to a vote by members of the Concordia
University Union of Support Staff - Technical Sector in a general assembly.
Recall that, on August 30, members had voted by a proportion of 95 per cent to
support strike action in order to help reach a conclusion to negotiations
before the beginning of the school year.
The union will not comment before members have the opportunity to study
the final texts and vote on the agreement. The central issues in these
negotiations concerned wages and access to a pre-retirement program.
Concordia's technicians have worked without a collective agreement since
August 31, 2002.
