TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Stikeman Elliott LLP is celebrating the first
anniversary of its formalized Community Involvement Program which over the
past year saw firm members in Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver
help more than 60 organizations, donate countless personal volunteer hours,
and raise more than $1,000,000 for charitable organisations in their
communities.
"While Stikeman Elliott firm members have been actively engaged in
charitable work for decades, formalising the Community Involvement Program has
encouraged and inspired many more to get involved," says Pierre A. Raymond,
Stikeman Elliott's Chair and partner in the Montréal office. "In addition to
benefiting numerous communities and charities - from the environment to
education, to animal aid, to health issues - internally, the program has
nourished firm morale and our corporate culture and team dynamics by enabling
our firm members to choose and share the causes that matter to them."
Stikeman Elliott's innovative Community Involvement Program was built on
the principle that firm members should select and support causes of interest
to them, and that these causes would be supported by the firm's Community
Involvement Program made up of the following core elements:

    - Grass Roots Initiatives which include charitable events/opportunities
championed by individual firm members within an office who take the
lead in organising and promoting firm-member involvement. The firm
provides support to these initiatives by providing boardroom space,
email promotion, collaterals, staff coordination time, and/or
matching donations. Examples of firm-endorsed initiatives include the
Pedal for Kids (Montréal Children's Hospital), the Terry Fox Run,
Bell Kids Help Line Walk, Ottawa Rotary Home, Canadian Blood Services
Partners for Life program, Conjugal Violence Priority Committee (in
support of the women of Quebec's First Nations), Denim Day in support
of people affected by breast cancer and Stikeman Elliott's
nation-wide Legally Pink/Lex Rosa Team for the 2008 Canadian Breast
Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure event.

    - Matching Donations for Volunteer Work where the firm matches staff,
law clerks, associates, and articling students' volunteer hours for a
registered charity with a cash donation based on hours worked.

    - Matching Donations for firm members who sit on charitable boards, and
who also make a financial contribution, of up to $5,000/year/person.
Stikeman Elliott firm members participate in numerous boards across
the country, including the Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Breast
Cancer Foundation (Ontario and Quebec Chapters), William Osler Health
Centre Foundation, the Montréal Children's Hospital Foundation; Défi
        corporatif Canderel; Glenbow Museum (Calgary); the YWCA Toronto;
Seneca College, Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario,
the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts,
Action against Hunger to name a few. Since this program was launched
last year, Stikeman Elliott has donated over $100,000 in matching
        donations.

    - Pro Bono Legal Advice component of the program builds on the firm's
current approach of providing pro bono legal services for charitable
and not-for-profit organisations, including Foster Parents Plan
        Canada (Plan Canada), the Sierra Club of Canada - Ontario Chapter;
Autism Society Canada, Junior Achievement of Canada, the Venture
Management Program at Queen's Business School, Wen-Do Canada, the
Sainte-Justine Hospital Foundation; the Entrepreneurship Centre of
the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI), LUMINATO, and
        The Nature Conservancy.

    - Firm-endorsed Fundraisers such as the United Way (Centraide), Imagine
Canada and Take Your Kids to Work.

Workplaces 2008 award for Volunteerism & Community Involvement by

Business award by Volunteer Calgary. The Calgary office recently
donated $10,000 to Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids, an initiative that

graduating and moving on to post-secondary programs. Stikeman Elliott
has provided internship and mentoring opportunities for youth in
        Toronto's Regent Park community.

    - Stikeman Elliott's Ottawa office raised more than $100,000 for the

respite centre for children with disabilities in North America.

    - All offices participate annually in the United Way Campaign with a
full week of fundraising activities such as pancake breakfasts, bake
sales, pizza lunches, 50/50 draws, live & silent auctions and
