Sterling provides update on current drilling operations

CALGARY, Dec. 7 /CNW/ - Sterling Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: SLG)

Offshore Romania: Sterling is pleased to report that the rig owner, Grup
Servicii Petroliere S.A. ("GSP") has issued formal confirmation that the
jack-up rig Prometeu will be ready to mobilize to the Doina Sister location on
Monday, December 10. As a result, the well is expected to spud in mid-December
and initial results are anticipated early in January, 2008. The Doina Sister
prospect is an analogue to the existing Doina gas discovery which tested gas
at restricted rates of 17-million standard cubic feet per day. The established
Doina gas trend forms a small part of the offshore Midia Block XV which
together with the Pelican Block XIII cover approximately 1.1 million acres and
contain several other mapped structures. Sterling obtained 100-percent of the
offshore blocks in late 2006 and subsequently reached agreement with three
companies to cover its costs for drilling and testing the Doina Sister well
plus a significant portion of a second well. Sterling retains a 65-percent
working interest in the Blocks. As previously announced, and given future
production from within the Doina trend, Gemini Oil and Gas Fund II, L.P. will
be entitled to payments equal to a share of gross revenues from such
production.

Onshore UK: The Burton Agnes well which started on November 15 is
progressing on schedule and initial results are expected towards year-end. The
well is drilling the Fraisthorpe prospect and the primary reservoir objective
is the Leman Sandstone in an area where this major Southern North Sea
reservoir extends onshore. The well is located seven-kilometers south of the
Caythorpe gas field which produces from the same reservoir. The current well
also has potential for secondary reservoir objectives in the overlying
Zechstein Carbonates and deeper Carboniferous sandstones. After farm-out,
Sterling is carried for the majority of drilling costs and retains a
20-percent working interest in Petroleum Exploration and Development License
071.

Onshore France: The rig contracted to drill the Grenade prospect is still
with the previous operator, and the current spud date for the Grenade-3 well
on the St Laurent permit is now the first week in January 2008. The well will
be drilled as a step-out to the original well drilled in 1975, which
encountered a 97-metre column of heavy oil in a highly porous and permeable
reservoir at a depth of 2,176-metres. Given success with the vertical pilot, a
horizontal sidetrack will be drilled and put on long-term test. Sterling has a
33.425-percent working interest in the block.
