    Firm named among Progressive Employers of Canada for "mom-friendly"

    TORONTO, June 8 /CNW/ - Tough economic conditions may be prompting some
employers to cut back on family-friendly programs and policies, but not so at
Ernst & Young. The firm announced today it has been selected as a 2009
Progressive Employer of Canada for its policies and programs for working moms.

vital to retaining the high-performing employees we rely on to serve the needs
of our clients," said Karen Wensley, Canada's People Team Leader for Ernst &
Young. "We work to emphasize flexibility for everyone at Ernst & Young. We

    Ernst & Young was selected as a Progressive Employer of Canada for 2009
for its various programs and policies supporting families, including:

    -  Flexible work arrangements
    -  Backup childcare

    -  Leaves of absence/sabbaticals
    

    Vancouver-based Partner Nicole Poirier has two daughters, ages four and
18 months. In order to juggle her many priorities, she's made use of programs
like backup childcare and flexible work arrangements.
    "After my second child, I worked from home initially and gradually
increased the number of days in the office until I returned full time," said
Poirier, who still takes time during the weekdays to drive her daughter to
French class or walk her to school. "For these flexible arrangements to work,
they have to be beneficial for all parties involved. I've never felt pressure
to operate a certain way and have been free to create a schedule that works
for my family, which I'm incredibly grateful for."
    The Progressive Employers of Canada list celebrates those who offer
flexibility, supportive leadership and progressive programs for working
