Statement from Toronto Cosmetic Clinic



    TORONTO, Sept. 24 /CNW/ - In an isolated event, a patient of Toronto
Cosmetic Clinic died following a liposuction procedure on Thursday,
September 20, 2007. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
    Toronto Cosmetic Clinic and its physicians maintain a strong record of
clinical safety. Physicians at the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic are fully trained
in accordance with the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons
and perform only those procedures for which they have been approved by the
College.
    Prior to any procedure, patients of the clinic undergo consultations with
both a registered nurse and a physician. These consultations include a full
physical including appropriate blood work, the taking of a full medical
history, and a comprehensive review of potential risks. Following a procedure,
patients are consistently monitored and supervised by registered nurses. A
licensed anesthesiologist is on hand during all procedures.
    Toronto Cosmetic Clinic maintains its commitment to the safety of its
