QUEEN'S PARK, Oct. 26 /CNW/ - Premier Dalton McGuinty issued the
following statement regarding Greg Sorbara's announcement that he is not
seeking a post in Cabinet.
"Our government has always strived to do what's best for Ontario
families. So I certainly respect and admire Greg's decision to do what he
believes is best for his own family.
Still, I accept his decision to not seek a Cabinet post with some regret.
Greg has been a driving force within our government, and has done a tremendous
job as Minister of Finance. Many will cite his work in overcoming a large
deficit and balancing the budget. But I know Greg is equally proud of the
investments and improvements we have made, particularly in education, health
care, infrastructure and addressing child poverty by introducing the new
Ontario Child Benefit.
He has played an important role in the stronger foundation we have built
here in Ontario over the past four years. And I am pleased that he intends to
continue to help us build on that stronger foundation, as a leading member of
Caucus. As an inspirational voice within the Ontario Liberal Party, Greg has
been instrumental in helping build a tremendous team of MPPs, all of whom are
deeply committed to moving Ontario forward.
As I am in the midst of the challenging task of choosing a Cabinet, I
appreciate perhaps more than anyone just how diverse and talented our team is.
So I'm confident we will continue to put forward an exceptionally strong team,
both in Cabinet and Caucus. And I am equally confident that every member of
that team, including me, will continue to seek Greg's counsel, tap into his
legendary energy, and value, above all, his friendship."
