Statement by Premier Dalton McGuinty - Passing of June Callwood

    QUEEN'S PARK, April 14 /CNW/ - I was deeply saddened when I heard today
of the passing of June Callwood.
Throughout her long and distinguished career, June worked tirelessly and
unselfishly on behalf of women, the sick, the disadvantaged and children.
Her legacy includes the over 50 social organizations she helped found -
including Nellie's women's shelter and Casey House, Canada's first AIDS
hospice.
June was, quite simply, a great force for social justice in Ontario. I
will deeply miss her influence for goodness.
Today, we are saddened by this loss, but we also celebrate the gift that
was June's life and her work.
We are a better, kinder and more compassionate province for having been
her home. In that sense, her love of humanity and her vision live on in all
that she left behind.
My thoughts and my prayers today are with her family and her friends -
especially her husband, Trent, and their children.
