STAPLES' community@work program donates funds to more than 1,100
elementary and high schools
RICHMOND HILL, ON, May 7 /CNW/ - STAPLES Canada announced today that it
will be donating $400,000 to all elementary and high schools registered within
the last 12 months with the 'Recycle for Education' Program.
"We are pleased to donate funds collected from recycled used eligible
cartridges back to local elementary and high schools in communities across
Canada - with each school receiving $334.00 - while diverting cartridges from
landfills," says Steve Matyas, president of STAPLES Canada.
The Recycle For Education program is easy. Cartridges can be dropped into
specially marked recycling bins at any of the more than 300 stores across the
country. "This is a great way to help schools while doing something positive
for the environment," said Matyas. It takes 400 to 1,000 years for a cartridge
to decompose in a landfill.
Monies will once again be channeled to all elementary and high schools
registered online for the program. To be eligible, schools are asked to
register at www.recyclefored.ca, between September 1 and December 31, 2009.
Funds raised will be distributed to participating schools in May 2010. Over
the past three years STAPLES Canada has donated $1 Million dollars to schools.
All elementary and secondary schools in Canada are eligible, whether or
not a STAPLES store operates in their community.
Through its corporate giving program - COMMUNITY@WORK - STAPLES is proud
to partner with local community leaders to identify and support programs and
initiatives focusing on three core areas: environment, education and
entrepreneurship. For more information, please visit
