Staples Advantage Canada awarded Corporate ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

    National Company Receives International Recognition

    MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 27 /CNW/ - Following a recent audit by ICS/KIWA,
Staples Advantage Canada has been awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental
Certification nationally.
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized Environmental Management
System (EMS) that specifies a framework of control, against which an
organization can be certified by a third party. To achieve certification,
Staples Advantage Canada had to demonstrate a complete system that included
documented processes and defined objectives focused on continual improvement,
pollution prevention and regulatory compliance. After a thorough audit
process, ICS/KIWA acknowledged that Staples Advantage Canada met all the
requirements for an effective EMS and awarded certification in March 2009.
The ISO 14001 Environmental Certification is a reflection of Staples
Advantage Canada's commitment to Staples Soul. Staples Soul reflects the
company's commitment to corporate responsibility through a holistic approach
that recognizes the close connection between success in business and the
desire to make a positive impact on associates, communities, and the planet by
joining together four areas: diversity, the environment, our community, and
ethics.
"Staples Advantage Canada is dedicated to environmental stewardship and
operating with as little impact on the environment as possible. As a company
that provides consumables and owns a truck fleet and distribution centres,
it's important we take responsibility for our business and ensure we are
taking the environment into account in everything we do," said Michael Zahra,
President of Staples Advantage Canada.
Staples Advantage Canada's Ontario division was the first to be ISO 14001
registered in 2004. Given the numerous benefits of having this registration,
in August 2008, the decision was made to achieve the standard across the
country. Developing the robust national systems needed and implementing them
across the country required strong leadership support and associate
dedication. This corporate registration audit was completed in February 2009.
"Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and we're committed
to being a trusted partner," said Susan D'Souza, National Environmental &
Sustainability Manager at Staples Advantage Canada. "We expedited the ISO
14001 audit and registration process to be better in line with our customers'
needs and wants. Not only did our associates drive our certification goal -
our customers did as well."
Staples Advantage Canada is dedicated to protecting the environment and
adhering to local, provincial, and national regulations regarding its business
practices.
In recognition of the company's achievement, celebration events have been
organized across Canada in each of their major locations that will take place
throughout the month of April. Today, the National office and Ontario division
celebrated with associates, customers and other important guests.
