TORONTO, May 27 /CNW/ - Southland Insurance in Leamington will receive a
Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a
ceremony on June 3, 2009 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize
outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Since 1969, Southland Insurance has proudly supported Leamington Fire
Service's annual Fire Safety Poster Contest. Without hesitation every year,
they provide trophies to all winners from Grades 1 to 6, as well as ribbons to
every student in the municipality who submitted a poster to be judged. In
addition to this support, they also lend staff to help judge the poster
competition and the event is attended by the company's mascot. Every year
approximately 700 posters are submitted into the competition.
"The Fire Safety Poster Contest is a creative way for students to learn
about fire safety," said Ontario Fire Marshal Pat Burke. "Thanks to the
continued support from Southland Insurance, this contest is helping students
to really think about fire safety and be rewarded for their efforts among
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 20 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
