Sony Canada awarded for its environmental leadership

    TORONTO, Oct. 27 /CNW/ - Sony of Canada Ltd. is proud to be the recipient
of a Recycling Council of Ontario 2008 Waste Minimization Award.
    The Recycling Council of Ontario presented Sony Canada with the top-level
Platinum award in the Business Category for its waste minimization
initiatives, specifically the expansion of its recycling program to include
all old Sony products. Sony Canada was also recognized for its environmental
leadership in all aspects of its business, including closed loop stewardship
from product design to recycling.

its waste reduction initiatives demonstrates its environmental leadership,"
said Jo-Anne St. Godard, Executive Director of the Recycling Council of
Ontario. "Sony Canada clearly understands the economic values and
environmental outcomes that come from sustainable business practices, and our
Awards program is intended to profile such champions."

    With the goal of diverting all of its products from landfill, Sony Canada
has partnered with Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc. (GEEP), and with
Sony's network of authorized service centres, opened 25 collection sites
across Canada, with a further 25 to open by 2010. These sites accept all Sony
products for recycling, including larger items like televisions and stereos,
at no charge.
    Sony Canada's expanded recycling program is an addition to the existing
Sony Notebook Computer Trade-in Program, the Sony Style retail recycling
program that collects all handheld Sony products, operational recycling
activities, and leadership roles with provincial stewardship programs across
