TORONTO, Sept. 4 /CNW/ - Softchoice Corp. (TSX: SO), a leading North
American provider of technology products and services, is delighted to
announce the release of an employee-produced music compilation. The album
features 13 original tracks written and performed by Softchoice employees to
raise funds for Softchoice Cares. One hundred percent of the proceeds from
album sales will go toward providing low income families in North America and
in third world communities with access to the latest technology.
"Technology is the great enabler of our time but there is still an
enormous gap between those who have it and those who do not," said David
MacDonald, President and CEO of Softchoice. "I am delighted our people have
chosen to focus on this issue. The creativity and enthusiasm they have
demonstrated through this music compilation and so many other Softchoice Cares
fundraising activities are only equaled by their desire to make our world a
Sofchoice Cares is an employee-led foundation that was started in
response to the tragic tsunami that devastated coastal communities from East
Africa to South East Asia in December of 2004. A group of 13 employees serve
as board members for a 12 month term. They are responsible for setting the
philanthropic strategy for the Company, selecting charities and directing
internally-run fundraising activities. This year the Softchoice Cares board
has chosen to focus on providing technology to those who might not otherwise
have access. Softchoice believes that getting new PCs into the hands of those
who need them most will create significant opportunities to enhance education,
further skills training and ultimately improve prospects for future employment
- both for people in North America and abroad.
"Education is perhaps one of the best means available to lift people out
of poverty," said Dean Williams, Chairman of the Board for Softchoice Cares.
"Our people are passionate about helping organizations benefit from the latest
technology. The focus of Softchoice Cares on bridging the digital divide is a
natural extension of this endeavor and will no doubt increase the momentum of
our efforts going forward."
Featuring 13 tracks written and performed by Softchoice employees from
branches across North America, this compilation celebrates Softchoice's
creative culture and the company's dedication to making the world a better
