Softchoice Cares travels to Uganda to support orphan children

TORONTO, July 11 /CNW/ - Softchoice Corporation (TSX: SO), a leading
North American provider of technology solutions and services, is delighted to
announce it will be undertaking a humanitarian mission to Uganda on July 12th,
2008. A group of 15 individuals from Softchoice Cares, the Company's
employee-inspired and employee-driven philanthropic outreach program, will be
traveling to Kampala, Uganda and volunteering at the OCA Computer IT center.
In addition to providing donations to establish a new computer lab, Softchoice
Cares participants will provide computer training classes as part of the
center's on-going initiative to increase computer literacy within the
community. Helping to improve access to technology among those less fortunate
is a natural focus given Softchoice's experience providing technology
solutions and services to North American businesses.
"All year long our people have been raising funds to promote computer
literacy and bridge the growing digital divide between the developed and
developing worlds. Now we have the honor of being the ambassadors of their
good will," said Dean Williams, Chairman of Softchoice Cares. "Partnering with
A Broader View Volunteer Corp is a once in a lifetime opportunity, as is the
chance to witness firsthand how the hard work of Softchoice will benefit those
less fortunate."
The volunteer trip to Uganda is the culmination of 12-months of service
and leadership development as members of Softchoice Cares. A Broader View
Volunteers Corp, a US-based non-profit organization, was a natural partner
given the organization's focus on making volunteering abroad possible for
people with limited time and busy schedules. A Broader View Volunteer Corp
programs range from one to 24 weeks and provide the opportunity to experience
another culture while making a real difference in people's lives. Volunteers
are given customized placements based on their skills and interests, and work
side-by-side with local people on community-led initiatives.
"Like the people of Softchoice, many individuals are searching for ways
to really make a difference," says Sarah Comitale, Executive Director of ABV.
"We give people the chance to discover that volunteering overseas is no longer
just a dream, but something they can actually do."
An A Broader View program includes orientation with in-country expert
staff. Softchoice participants will be provided with room and board with a
local host family and will be given project support and briefings to provide
insight into the local culture and community. Softchoice representatives will
also have the opportunity to use their knowledge of information technology as
they lead local classes aimed at boosting computer literacy.
