QUEEN'S PARK, March 9 /CNW/ - Today John Tory made a campaign stop
reminding voters the current system of MPAC property evaluations were created
by his Conservative party.
Hard working families have not been fooled by Tory's hypocrisy. The
people of Ontario have received a stinging reminder every other year that
Tories downloaded land ambulance, public health, roads and bridges onto local
property taxpayers. It is the McGuinty Liberals that are reversing the damage
done to our municipalities by providing much needed funding.
The McGuinty Liberals initiated the Provincial Municipal Service Delivery
Review, which will look at ways to improve the balance of responsibilities
between municipalities and the province to work towards a more equitable
relationship.
Ontarians know Tory's rhetoric is thick on property tax reform. The
Welland Tribune isn't buying it either as their headline March 2, 2006 reads,
"Hudak's party created tax problem."
So does the Ottawa Citizen; "In suggesting capping, the Conservatives are
returning to a tactic they employed while in power, to disastrous effect."
(April 25, 2006)
And when the Tories had a chance to be on the side of Ontario seniors
they chose to neglect them again by voting against a 2004 Budget initiative
that provided an increase of $125 or 25% (from $500 to $625) in the property
tax credit for low and middle income seniors.
Conservatives failed 8 different times to get property tax assessments
right. They created the mess. Ontario Liberals are cleaning it up. Working
with our cities, we'll get it right, the first time.
