TORONTO, Nov. 25 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing to examine the circumstances of a shooting that occurred on
November 24, 2007, involving the Peel Regional Police (PRP).
At approximately 4:55 p.m. yesterday evening, four PRP officers were
involved in a confrontation with a 44-year-old man inside a convenience store
at 4369 Brandon Gate Drive in Malton. The man was shot by two PRP officers and
taken to hospital where he is currently in serious but stable condition.
SIU investigators have designated two subject officers and three witness
officers from the PRP. They are continuing to appeal to anyone who has any
information about this incident to contact the lead investigator at

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
