MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 27 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing its investigation into the death of a 48 year old man involved in a
collision in Barrie on Tuesday August 25, 2009.
The SIU investigation to date has determined that just after 3:30 p.m. a
Barrie Police Service (BPS) officer stopped a Mitsubishi automobile in the
area of Ferndale Drive and Tiffin Street to investigate the driver. Shortly
after the stop, the driver drove off in his vehicle. The officer initiated a
pursuit. In the area of Essa Road and Ferndale Drive the Mitsubishi was
involved in a collision with a Honda Civic. The driver of the Honda, Steven
Tuck of Barrie, sustained fatal injuries.
The SIU has designated one officer as a subject officer and seven
officers as witness officers. In addition, a number of civilian witnesses have

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
