MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 25 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating the serious injuries suffered by two people early this morning
in an incident involving the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) - Northumberland
The OPP reported that just after 1:00 a.m. June 25, 2009 an officer
attempted to stop a vehicle on Crown River Road. The vehicle did not stop. A
short time later the vehicle was located on County Road 38 where it had left
the roadway. The four occupants in the vehicle were injured, two seriously.
All four people were admitted to Campbellford Hospital.
The SIU has assigned five investigators, including two forensic
investigators, to investigate the incident.
SIU investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
