MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 6 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating a single motor vehicle collision that occurred at a service
centre on westbound Highway 401 east of Morrisburg early this morning.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported to the SIU that at
approximately 2:30 a.m., an OPP officer was conducting radar on westbound
Highway 401 when the officer saw a black Kia car travelling at a high rate of
speed. The officer started to follow the Kia. A short time later the car
exited the highway at a service centre between Morrisburg and Ingleside and
collided with a cement barrier. There were four occupants in the vehicle. One
woman suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital in Montreal.
Three other occupants of the car, two male and one female, have been released
from Cornwall Community Hospital.
Five SIU investigators, including two forensic investigators, are probing
the circumstances surrounding the collision. Investigators are examining the
collision scene, will be designating subject and witness officers, and
locating and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information about the

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
