TORONTO, Nov. 24 /CNW/ - Seven investigators and four forensic
identification technicians from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) are
probing the circumstances of a shooting that occurred involving the Peel
Regional Police (PRP).
The SIU was notified that at about 4:55 p.m. this evening, four PRP
officers responded to a domestic dispute call at a home on Delmonte Crescent
in Malton. The officers found the man they were looking for outside a
convenience store at 4369 Brandon Gate Drive. The officers were involved in a
confrontation with the man inside the store and shots were fired by the
police. The man was struck in the chest and is being treated at Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre. He is in critical condition.
There is no further information available at this time.
SIU forensic technicians are examining the scene and investigators have
started interviewing six witnesses. Anyone else who has any further

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
