TORONTO, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing
the circumstances surrounding the shooting of man by the London Police Service
The LPS contacted the SIU at 2:54 p.m. today. The LPS advised the SIU
that earlier today officers of the LPS were involved in an investigation on
Oakville Avenue. Sometime during the investigation officers interacted with a
26-year-old man. During the interaction at least one shot was fired and the
man was struck. The man was transported to Victoria Hospital in London where
he is presently undergoing surgery.
The SIU has assigned six investigators and three forensic investigators
to probe the circumstances surrounding this incident. Investigators are
appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact the Unit

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
