TORONTO, Oct. 1 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a London man.
On Tuesday September 30, 2008 at approximately 4:15 p.m., the London
Police Service was called to a home on Millbank Drive about a distraught man.
Shortly after arriving, officers heard a single gunshot coming from the
backyard. During their search, they found the body of a 50-year-old man inside
a garden shed. A shotgun was also recovered.
A post-mortem conducted this afternoon has determined the cause of death
as a gunshot wound to the head. No suspects are being sought by the London
Police Service in connection with this case; foul play is not suspected.
The SIU has designated two subject officers and four witness officers for
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
