TORONTO, Oct. 27 /CNW/ - Two Investigators, a Collision Reconstructionist
and a Forensic Identification Technician from the Special Investigations Unit
(SIU) are investigating the circumstances surrounding a police pursuit and a
personal injury motor vehicle collision on Hwy 401 near Lancaster.
The SIU was notified that at approximately 7:30 PM on Friday, October 26,
2007 an OPP officer was investigating a vehicle in a service centre on Highway
401 near Lancaster. The vehicle refused to stop. The officer returned to his
vehicle and pursued the vehicle westbound onto the highway. Approximately 3
kilometers from the service centre the vehicle attempted to make a U turn and
rolled over. The 24 year old male driver was treated at Cornwall Hospital for
non life threatening injuries.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
