MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 29 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
probing the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle collision that occurred
in the Ottawa area late last evening.
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) reported that at 10:25 p.m. they
responded to a call on Cleroux Street (Blackburn Hamlet), Ottawa. As an
officer arrived at the call a Pontiac car left the scene. The officer
attempted to stop the car to investigate the driver. The driver did not stop
and a pursuit ensued.
The driver lost control of the car on Innes Road. The car left the road
and struck a parked vehicle and then a house. The 19 year old Ottawa man
driving the car was taken to the Ottawa Civic Hospital for treatment of his
The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators
along with a collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances
surrounding this incident.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
