MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 24 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
probing the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle collision that occurred
in London early yesterday evening.
The SIU investigation thus far has determined that at 7:16 p.m. on August
23, 2009, officers from the London Police Service (LPS) attempted to stop a
Jeep Rubicon that was southbound on Highbury Road. The driver of the Jeep did
not stop. On Highbury Road, south of Hamilton Road, the police vehicle and
Jeep came into contact with one another. The Jeep left the roadway and went
into a ditch. The driver of the Jeep, a 28 year old London woman, and 20 year
old female passenger were taken to Victoria Hospital by ambulance. The driver
was admitted for the treatment of her injuries. The passenger was treated and
released. No police officers were injured.
The SIU has assigned five investigators and three forensic investigators
to probe the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
