TORONTO, April 7 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
investigating the circumstances surrounding a firearm injury and custody
On April 6, 2007 at about 2330 hrs, members of the Peel Regional Police
Service (PRPS) arrested 3 males and 2 females for break and enter of a
Rutherford Road South business in Brampton. One PRPS officer confronted three
males at the front door of the business. The officer discharged his firearm,
and the projectile struck a 21 year-old male in the left arm. The three males
ran to the rear of the business. The males were arrested after a struggle with
PRPS officers. A 24 year-old male complained of a broken jaw after his arrest.
Both injured males were taken to hospital, treated and released to the custody
At 0613 hrs April 7, 2007 the SIU was notified of the firearm injury and
custody injury. Six SIU investigators, including two Forensic Identification
Technicians attended the scene and commenced an investigation.
The SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director of
the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted
based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's decision is
reported to the Attorney General.
