TORONTO, June 17 /CNW/ - Five SIU investigators and two Forensic
Identification Technicians have been dispatched to the Peterborough area to
investigate the death of a 50-year-old man.
On Saturday, June 16, 2007 at approximately 0110 hrs two members of the
Peterborough OPP Detachment responded to a residence on Challice Line, in the
Peterborough area regarding a suicidal male. They located a 50-year-old male
with an exacto knife in the backyard of the residence. He was disarmed and
arrested under the authority of the Mental Health Act. He was transported to
the Peterborough Civic Hospital by ambulance for treatment. There he was found
to have suffered a piercing wound to his abdomen. He was pronounced dead at
A Post Mortem examination will be conducted at the Coroner's Building in
Toronto later today to determine the cause of death.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving
police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or
death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director
of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are
warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's
decision is reported to the Attorney General.
