TORONTO, March 5 /CNW/ - Nine investigators from the Special
Investigations Unit (SIU) are investigating the circumstances of a collision
that has left one man dead and three people injured.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) notified the SIU that at
approximately 10:44 a.m. today, the HRPS received a call about a collision on
Trafalgar Road, north of 5th Sideroad. As an officer approached the collision
scene, he saw the driver of a minivan lose control on Trafalgar and roll into
a ditch. The officer pulled over and, with the assistance of other motorists,
assisted the two occupants in the minivan. There were white-out conditions and
several motorists had exited their cars to help those who had been involved in
In the meantime, the driver of a car traveling northbound on Trafalgar
struck three people.
Two men were taken to Georgetown General Hospital and one has died as a
result of his injuries. Two women were also taken to area hospitals. The
extent of their injuries is not known at this time.
SIU investigators are probing the nature and extent of police involvement
in all the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Anyone who witnessed

The SIU is a civilian government agency that investigates circumstances
involving police and civilians, which have resulted in serious injury or
death. Under Section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU
has the authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted based on the
