MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 1 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a
65 year old Sudbury man in the Burwash Township area yesterday afternoon.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) contacted the SIU yesterday at 3:20
p.m. The OPP reported that a call was received from a distraught man
requesting police assistance. As a result officers were dispatched to the
Department of National Defence training site on Highway 69 south of Sudbury.
When officers arrived Wayne Robert Feick was found on the ground with a
suspected gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem
was scheduled for 1.00 p.m. today in Sudbury.
Four investigators and two forensic investigators from the SIU are
probing the circumstances of this occurrence.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
