SIU Appeals for Witnesses to a Shooting in Brampton



    TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is
continuing its appeal for witnesses who may be able to assist with the probe
into a shooting involving officers of the Peel Regional Police on Sunday,
May 25, 2008.
    SIU investigators would like to speak to two men riding their bicycles on
Bovaird Drive near Highway 10 and a man, who drove his pick-up truck -
possibly brown in colour - into the parking lot of a plaza at 170 Bovaird at
approximately 7:40 a.m. just shortly before a man was shot by police in the
plaza.
    The wounded man has been identified as 23-year-old Roy Rousseau.
    The three members of the public as well as anyone else, who may have seen
or heard anything with regard to this incident, are asked to call the SIU at

    The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
