TORONTO, June 30 /CNW/ - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing
the circumstances surrounding the death of a 43-year-old woman yesterday
evening after she fell from an apartment in Mississauga.
At approximately 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, officers from the Peel
Regional Police (PRP) responded to a call at an apartment building located at
30 Elm Drive East. Shortly after officers arrived at the apartment, the woman
fell to her death from the 9th floor. A post mortem examination is scheduled
The SIU has assigned six investigators and two forensic investigators to
investigate the circumstances surrounding this woman's death. Investigators
are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact the Unit at

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
