Thousands of Canadian students from 38 schools across Canada to benefit
from creative music program assistance
TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2011 /CNW/ - SiriusXM Canada (TSX: XSR), the
country's premier digital audio entertainment and content provider,
together with S'Cool Life Fund, is pleased to announce distribution of the $100,000 SiriusXM Instrument Fund, committed last May, to 38 elementary schools across Canada for the
2011/2012 school year.
"Generous donations such as the SiriusXM Instrument Fund, and forward
thinking partnerships between the private sector and non-profits, such
as S'Cool Life Fund, help educators to keep music and the arts alive in
Canadian classrooms," said Nancy Steinhauer, Principal of George
Webster Elementary in East York, Ontario. "Each year I've received
additional funding from this initiative, and each year, my students
learn, grow and develop in ways they wouldn't otherwise."
By providing instruments, sheet music, instrument supplies, and uniforms
the SiriusXM Instrument Fund was created to help support the efforts of
elementary schools across the country to refresh existing music
programs and develop exciting new programming for students. Funding
will be equally distributed between English and French language schools
and will offer children an opportunity to benefit from their connection
"As part of SiriusXM Canada's ongoing commitment to support Canada's
cultural community and emerging talent, we are proud to help
under-funded schools across the country encourage the artistic growth
of Canada's next generation of great performers and musicians," said
Mark Redmond, President and CEO, SiriusXM Canada. "This exciting
initiative further demonstrates SiriusXM's commitment to and investment
in bringing music back into children's lives."
Year after year, S'Cool Life Fund supports diverse and creative projects
nationwide. Since launching in 2005, S'Cool Life Fund has awarded more
than $2 million worth of grants to help supplement DREAMS: Drama,
Recreation, Extra Curricular, Music, and Sports for children in 746
public elementary schools.
"We are overwhelmed with the positive response from teachers, parents,
and of course, students to this important initiative that is reaching
thousands of elementary students year after year" said John I. Bitove,
Chairman, S'Cool Life Fund. "This partnership with SiriusXM Canada is
only the beginning as we look forward to bringing exciting new
opportunities to students across the country."
Grant applications for the 2012/2013 school year are currently available
on-line and accepted until January 31, 2012; all applications will
continue to be accepted through S'Cool Life Fund. Schools may apply for one grant per school per calendar year; S'Cool
Life Fund applicants who have already applied for a music grant for
