Simplicity Inc. Announces Voluntary Safety Advisory Relating to Cribs with Drop Side Rails

    MONTREAL, Sept. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - On September 21, 2007, Simplicity Inc.
announced a Safety Advisory relating to cribs with drop side rails. On several
models of cribs manufactured in China by Simplicity Inc., the drop side rail
may be installed upside down. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which
can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation of
infants. No incidents or injuries have been reported in Canada. The number of
units and the models affected in Canada were incorrectly reported by
Simplicity Inc. to Health Canada last week. Health Canada's website is in the
process of being corrected.

This Safety Advisory may affect the following models in Canada:

Graco 3 in 1 Model # Manufactured before
                         705000 July 2005

Simplicity Nursery Model # Manufactured before
    in a Box 8910CC February 2006

Simplicity Crib Model # Manufactured before
    N Changer 8994WC July 2005

The total number of cribs sold in Canada was about 263. The number of
units and the models sold in Canada were incorrectly reported last week. The
number of units affected in Canada differs from the number of units affected
in the United States, as units destined for the Canadian market undergo a
different inspection procedure.

The model number and date of manufacture can be found on the crib's
headboard. These cribs were sold in mass merchandisers, specialty retailers
and department stores from January 2001 through June 2007.
Consumers should check to see if the drop-side is installed right side
up. To do this, check to see that the slightly rounded rail with the
decorative groove is installed at the top and the plain rail is on the bottom.
Next, consumers should make sure the drop-side is securely attached to the
tracks in all four corners. If the drop-side is installed upside down or not
securely attached, consumers should stop using the crib immediately. Incorrect
installation can cause permanent damage to the hardware and re-installing the
drop-side using the same hardware is unsafe. Consumers should check to see if
their crib contains the hardware indicated in this advisory. The affected
hardware has a flexible tab at the bottom of the lower tracks and the top of
the lower tracks are open. Newer hardware, which is not subject to this
advisory, has the flexible tab located at the top of the lower track, and a
permanent stop at the bottom.
Elfe Juvenile Products will mail, to all known owners with a Simplicity
crib affected by this advisory, instructions to correct the installation of
the drop side rail. In addition, Elfe Juvenile Products will email these
instructions to those consumers who provided their email address to Elfe
Juvenile Products. Consumers who own one of the affected cribs, but have not
yet notified Elfe Juvenile Products should call 1-800-667-8184 Monday-Friday
between 8.30 AM & 5.45 PM EST or visit 24 hours a day to
determine whether their crib may be affected and to obtain instructions on how
to correctly install the drop side rail. When calling Elfe Juvenile Products,
consumers should have the model number and date of manufacture of the crib
readily available.
